Editorial Policy
Epidemiologia&Prevenzione, the official journal of the Italian Epidemiological Association, brings together many of the finest original Italian studies in epidemiological research and the evaluation of interventions in the fields of prevention and public health.
It also serves as an important channel for bringing contributions to the attention of an international audience that would otherwise circulate only within Italy.
- Contributions may be submitted in either Italian or English.
- Articles submitted to Epidemiologia&Prevenzione may not be submitted to other journals.
- Neither the publisher nor the Scientific Editorial Board is responsible for the views expressed by authors in their contributions.
- By submitting a contribution to the Journal, you confirm that you are the corresponding author, and the publisher will use the email address provided on the submission platform for communications regarding the article. Please notify us promptly of any changes to your contact details. If the article is accepted, the Editorial Staff will use the same address used for registration on the platform for communications regarding the editorial process and publication.
- The Journal asks authors to grant it an exclusive license to ensure that any requests from third parties to reproduce the material are handled correctly. Under the terms of the licenses granted, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Journal is cited as the source. See the ‘Licenses and copyright’ page.
- Every article published in the journal is assigned a DOI.
Citation databases
- Research Articles, Systematic Reviewes&Metanalysis, Methodological Articles, and Opinion are sent to PubMed, Scopus and other scientific databases.
- Letters, Editorials, and News are sent to databases at the publisher's discretion (based on the topic).
- Columns are not sent to scientific databases.
Authors’ personal archives, pre-prints, content access policies
Authors are given the opportunity to insert an original version (pre-print) on any platform and the Publisher will consider contributions already made available on the journal’s Repository (repo.epiprev.it, which includes non-peer-reviewed papers), bioRxiv, medRxiv and any other platforms offering pre-print services.
If the paper is accepted, authors are required to update the status of each pre-print, including the assigned DOI, as described on the “Archiving Policy” page.
Open access and licenses
Epidemiologia&Prevenzione offers two different publication options:
- content accessible only to subscribers, under a standard licence with copyright transferred to the publisher;
- open-access content available to everyone, under a licence chosen by the authors. (see “Licenses and copyright”). In this case, authors are required to pay a fee. See fee options.
The payment of the fee and the license selection form are required from authors ONLY IF the manuscript is accepted for publication.
Conflicts of interest
Any paper must be accompanied by the conflicts of interest (CoI) disclosure form (download the form). Corresponding author is required to collect information about potential CoI from all authors and fill in ONLY ONE FORM on behalf of all authors. The form must be undersigned only by the corresponding author.
The published version of the paper will include the paragaph “Conflicts of interest”, where any conflicts of interest declared in the form will be summarized; otherwise, “none declared” will be inserted.
Funding, Acknowledgments, and Ethical approvals
At the bottom of the article, it is requested to state any funding, acknowledgments, and ethical approvals, which will be reported in the published version of the paper. (See Ethics Policy).
Any paper must include the following declarations:
- conflicts of interest:
- insert a sentence summarizing potential conflicts of interest and state who they relate to
OR
-
- state “none declared” after the phrase “Conflicts of interest”
- fundings:
- insert a sentence summarizing any funding received for the paper publication, the study, the funding institution (in full), and the Grant ID (if available)
OR
-
- state that no funding had been received.
- ethical approval:
- insert the name of the Ethics Committee which approved the study and, if available, the protocol ID of the opinion
OR
-
- state that no approval is required.
Where applicable, add a declaration of compliance with recognized standards (e.g., Helsinki Declaration).
- acknowledgments (optional): Authors may include a list of people who were involved in the work but do not qualify for authorship.
- AI use (if applicable): Authors must add a declaration at the end of their text about any use of AI tools, briefly stating or reiterating which tools were used and how they were used (e.g., improving the readability and English grammar, collecting and/or analysing data, or in producing images). AI tools may not be listed as authors.
Declaration forms are available at this page (at the top right)
Peer-review
Each contribution is assigned to a Section Editor and evaluated by one or more Reviewers.
E&P uses double-blind peer-review, meaning the Authors are unaware of the Reviewers’ identities, and the Reviewers are unaware of the Authors’ identities.
During the review process, Authors maintain any contact with the Journal through the Section editor.
Reviewers are required to undersign a CoI disclosure form.
See the lists of E&P collaborators: Scientific Board members, Section Editors, and Associate Editors.
Corrections and Retractions
Corrections
If substantial errors are found that compromise or hinder the proper understanding or evaluation of the article, the journal publishes a correction note associated with the published article. The HTML version of the article is amended, while the original PDF remains available, but is supplemented by the amended PDF and an explicit error notification.
An errata corrige, complete with DOI, is published in the Journal, containing:
- the bibliographical details of the paper (title, DOI, complete journal citation);
- the description of the mistake;
- the amendment;
- link to any supporting file.
The same errata corrige is sent to PubMed, which associates it with the article it refers to.
Retractions
An article may be retracted if the integrity of the work is compromised by errors in the conduct, analysis, or results of the study, or if it violates research ethics.
The article is marked as “retracted”, but a PDF version remains available to readers.
Retraction notification is also sent to PubMed.
